A first CPL final staged in Barbados, and both finalists have something unrepeatable riding on it. Antigua & Barbuda Falcons are in their first decider, hunting a maiden title. Jamaica Kingsmen can win one in their debut season.
Falcons: the middle overs belong to them
Antigua's route here was built on control rather than fireworks. Shadab Khan (4.54 economy) and Sufyan Moqim (6.71) attack the stumps through the middle instead of simply drying up an end, and behind them sit three genuine pace options in Alzarri Joseph, Joshua James and Shamar Springer.
Their batting template is the other half of the story. Moeen Ali has been open about it: they protect wickets early, trust the bowlers and accelerate late — a shape that produces controlled 160s far more often than 190s.
"We've just got better and better as the tournament's gone on," said Moeen ahead of the final.
The expected XI reads Cornwall, Lewis, Jangoo, Nawaz, Moeen, Shadab, Allen, James, Moqim, Joseph and Springer, with Jayden Seales the one live selection question after his Qualifier omission (Cricbuzz). Nothing is confirmed until the toss, but an unchanged side looks likely.
Kingsmen: chase rhythm, leaky overs
Jamaica have found something in the knockouts, and it is all with the bat. Maaz Sadaqat sets the tone, Kirk McKenzie plays the complementary role without competing for tempo, and Rovman Powell has just produced his most influential innings of the campaign.
The bowling is the soft edge. The Kingsmen concede 8.72 an over in this competition, with Vitel Lawes (10.06) and Keemo Paul (9.60) both expensive, and Andre Russell carrying a back problem from the Eliminator — Powell's verdict was "He's good … He's just a little bit gingered" (Cricbuzz).
A pitch that keeps changing its mind
Kensington's T20 numbers since the start of 2025 split neatly: 7.04 an over batting first, 8.19 chasing. Finals week has swung wildly — first-innings efforts of 144, 150, 206 and 76, so only one of the four would have carried this line on its own.
Dew is the genuine variable rather than a footnote, which is why every knockout captain here has fielded first. Expect the same again, warm and humid with only a low evening shower risk.
Where the 331.5 line overreaches
The total demands roughly 166 per innings. Both finalists average less than that batting first, and the ground's own first-innings tempo works out around 141 in twenty overs.
Then comes the structural point the price seems to ignore: with a chase almost certain, the second innings is capped at target plus a handful. The over effectively needs a 165-plus first innings followed by a completed chase, or a big score successfully defended — the right tail is simply cut off.
The combined line also beats the two individual unders, because one Sadaqat or Cornwall special can blow up a single team total while the match line still needs both sides to clear their level.
The risks are named: dew arriving early can turn a 175 first innings into a 355 match, and a restricted Russell would expose Lawes and Paul sooner than Powell would like.
